Rights of way training day with the BHS

Online booking is now open for BHS 2026 Restoring the Record training in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Sunday 4 November. The day is free to attend but you do need to register online.
At this training day you will learn how to identify historical routes and the key resources used to study them from two acknowledged experts in the field, Sarah Bucks and Dr Phil Wadey, co-authors of ‘Rights of Way Restoring the Record’. You’ll find out what your evidence can unlock and how to create a systematic research method to investigate your routes.  Please bring a laptop if you have one (wi-fi provided, for those who don’t have a laptop let us know and we can organise to share) and OS  maps of your local area – tablets or smartphones may not be suitable for some training exercises. Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring a packed lunch along with you.

This training day is free and open to everyone so please spread the word and tell any horsey friends, cyclists and walkers about it too.The aim of the training events is to enthuse, enable and empower rights of way researchers to make definitive map modification order applications to ensure routes that would be extinguished in 2026 are saved from the cut-off date.
