Withdrawal of hat standard BSEN 1384(1997 or 2012) or EN 1386(1996)
We have to advise members that due to the withdrawal of the above standard hats from approved status we must ask members to use hats from one of the standards listed below from 1st January, 2017. This is a requirement for insurance purposes. There is no safety issue with the hats but due to European beauracratic disagreements the standard has been withdrawn and would invalidate our insurance and very possibly your own depending on the policy.
Pictures of the correct labels and further details of the hats which are acceptable are listed on the British Riding Clubs website hat guidelines for 2016. Do check carefully before making any purchase. The standards which will be acceptable are listed below – do beware that old standard hats are being sold off at cheaper prices at many outlets. During 2016 EGB allowed the old standard of hat to be worn, this is no longer the case as of January 2017.
