About us

The Border Bridleways Association was founded approximately twenty five years ago to protect and re-open bridleways in the East Cheshire/Staffordshire border area.  We still aim to preserve, promote and safeguard, and occasionally, open these precious routes.  As a by product of the original intent, it was found that funds were needed to assist in financing improvements – something which is even more of an issue nowadays, as Councils have little money to spend on rights of way at this time.  We, therefore, began to run social and equestrian events to raise funds.  Our events are low key, we do not see ourselves as a Riding Club, but we run lessons in jumping and flatwork, run an annual course at Somerford and run dressage competitions, a combined training competition, fun rides, treasure hunts etc and also we usually have a Christmas meal, a barbecue and dog agility and an equestrian Christmas do! A group of our members also run evening bike rides – followed by a nice pub meal.  New members are always welcome, we pride ourselves in being friendly and approachable and open to new suggestions.  We are not a very competitive group but we have a common interest in looking after our rights and improving our riding, which works very well. It has to be said, however, that some of our long standing members have gone on to notable successes after a lowly start with us!  These days we do not have a research officer so it is very much a case of riders looking after issues in their own areas but with the support and added knowledge of the group.  Many members have made life time friends through the group.  Come and join us, you will be most welcome!
